For the past few months, we have been focusing this series around what it means to be a Lutheran in the ELCA. We’ve looked at the history of the church and seen how it has used an emphasis on logic and reasoning in order to grow and better understand our faith and the Word of God. In this new series, we will be looking at the commentaries of Martin Luther. Using what we have learned so far, we will examine the theology of the early church and compare it to our modern understanding. This will serve as example to show how growth and change in the church is not always a bad thing, but an essential element to the health of the church and its people.

Session 1
Tuesday October 8th

This Lesson will be focusing on an introduction to the commentary on Genesis by Martin Luther. We will learn about pointless arguments from the early church and the unknowable mysteries of God and their creation.

Session 2
Tuesday October 15th

Martin Luther emphasized using logic and reasoning to understand not just the world around us, but also the Word of God. We will use our logic and reasoning skills to compare our modern understanding of the world and God’s Word to Martin Luther’s.

Session 3
Tuesday October 22nd

In this session, we will examine the definition of sin and original sin. We will look at Martin Luther’s explanation of original sin and how life might have been if Adam and Eve had never sinned.

Session 4
Tuesday October 29th

In this final session in the series, we will look at how sin works in our lives and the promise of salvation that has been with humanity since Adam and Eve.
